After the devastation of the Christchurch earthquakes, the movement community, along with Christchurch City Council, identified the need for an all-inclusive, non-judgemental space in which our community can come together and express themselves through artistic movement.
Thus began MOVE: an organisation with the goal of uniting people from all walks of life through movement.
MOVE’s purpose-built studios in the soon-to-open Parakiore facility will be a space that all members of the dance, circus and movement community in Ōtautahi can enjoy: whether or not you’re new to artistic expression through movement, it doesn’t matter - MOVE is for everyone!
With a vision to make artistic movement a form of expression that is accessible to anyone, MOVE aims to provide inclusive and accessible environments for anyone to experience the joy of movement in all its forms.
MOVE isn’t just a space; it’s an all-encompassing kaupapa, with the collective vision of growing the vibrant Christchurch artistic movement community. MOVE provides opportunities to support health and wellbeing for individuals and communities through a wide range of programming, partnerships and workshops. From Line dancing to Mau Rakau; Contemporary dance to Capoeira; Circus classes for toddlers though to older adults - there's something for everyone!
